Germfree and On Demand Pharmaceuticals – Breaking New Ground in Healthcare at NMHS
North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS) is setting a new standard in healthcare with an innovative partnership with On Demand Pharmaceuticals Inc (ODP).
NMHS President and CEO, Shane Spees, champions this collaboration as an unmatched response to the healthcare challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our health system thrives amidst adversity,” Spees declared. “We’re envisioning a transformative shift in healthcare delivery.”
ODP’s breakthrough technology platform, the Shortage Response Pharmacy on Demand (SR-PoD), is comprised of two mobile manufacturing cleanrooms, designed with precision by Germfree Laboratories. The unit maintains a sterile environment without compromising patient safety or quality. Located right on the North Mississippi Medical Center’s premises, it will be operational by mid-December.
“This empowers those who matter most — the caregivers,” said John Lewin, ODP’s Chief Medical Officer. “The pharmacy adapts production based on the hospital’s needs.”
In partnership with local pharmacy technicians, ODP will produce vital medicines such as lidocaine and epinephrine, utilizing pharmaceutical ingredients from Willow Birch Pharma. They already have recipes for over 50 commonly scarce medicines, with plans for expansion, aligned with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy’s guidance.
Jim Hancock, ODP’s CEO, describes this partnership as akin to a “Star Wars-like” leap forward in healthcare.
