Carol Houts steps into the role of CEO at Germfree with nearly three decades of experience spanning pharmaceutical and biologics product development, quality, regulatory affairs, and clinical research, and a proven record of driving Germfree’s commercial and strategic growth from within.

Before assuming the CEO role, Carol served as Germfree’s Chief Commercial Officer and also as the Chief Strategy Officer, where she played a central role in shaping the company’s direction, expanding its market presence, and positioning Germfree as the leading provider of innovative offsite cleanroom and facility solutions for biopharmaceutical applications.

Carol’s career prior to Germfree spans executive leadership at full-service clinical research organizations including QST Consultations, Clinartis, BioRASI, and Pleiad (Cromsource), where she led global operations across clinical, regulatory, and pharmacovigilance functions. She has also held quality and compliance roles at Pfizer, Stryker Biotech, and Biomimetic Therapeutics, a foundation that informs both her scientific rigor and her business instincts.

Known for her ability to translate deep industry expertise into tangible growth, Carol has a strong track record of building organizational capabilities, securing strategic partnerships, and developing the kind of long-term vision that moves companies forward.

Outside of work, Carol is a proud partner to her husband of over 30 years, a devoted mother of two, and a dedicated companion to Norman, a tenacious basset hound. She finds balance in the outdoors through hiking, kayaking, and mountain life, and remains deeply committed to advancing healthcare access and equality across the industry she has spent her career serving.
