The challenge was to design a custom BSL-3 mobile laboratory that could operate in harsh winter conditions in Toronto, Canada, while integrating seamlessly into their facilities, BMS, and security systems.

Germfree designed a custom BSL-3 mobile laboratory on a 53′ trailer chassis that features approximately 250 square feet of containment space. The trailer was engineered to operate in cold winter conditions in Toronto and integrated into their existing systems for utilities, BMS, and security.

Our team made sure that the trailer met the necessary safety and security requirements, such as a 100% fresh single air pass, emergency safety shower in the anteroom, and a full heater system due to being located in a colder climate. The cleanroom spaces also had heated floors. Germfree built the casework for the trailer, including sink cabinets, rolling workstations and shelves, and a bottle cart.

The BSL3 Custom Mobile Laboratory was designed, built, and commissioned on site in Toronto, Canada in 2021.  PHAC review and approval of the facility is complete.
