PHAC-class III virology glovebox

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) required a custom Class III virology glovebox: a biosafety cabinet for virology studies and disease surveillance. Germfree designed and manufactured a 10-foot glovebox system consisting of two 5-foot chambers connected by a common pass-through. The glovebox system had to meet strict standards for Class III biological safety cabinets to ensure the safety of researchers handling biological materials.

The challenge

The project presented a unique challenge for Germfree, as we had to design and manufacture a glovebox system that met PHAC’s specific requirements in addition to their already stringent biosafety standards.

The answer

PHAC approached Germfree with the challenge of designing and manufacturing a custom Class III biological safety cabinet for virology studies and disease monitoring. Germfree rose to the task and delivered a custom solution that met PHAC’s specific requirements.

The blower was mounted on a separate stand below the pass-through to ensure a high level of cleanliness within the glovebox. In addition, the glovebox system had a common pass-through to allow safe transfer of materials between the two chambers.

The glovebox system was delivered to the PHAC BSL-4 facility and is currently being used for virology studies and disease surveillance. This project exemplifies Germfree’s expertise in designing and manufacturing custom solutions to meet the unique challenges of a particular application. By working with Germfree, PHAC was able to obtain a customized solution that met their specific requirements while adhering to strict biosafety standards.
