High containment

Biosafety

Biosafety laboratories, depending on their level, must conform to specific NIH, CDC, and biological safety guidelines. These guidelines govern work and research on infectious materials, toxins, and exotic or dangerous agents. Containment areas such as BSL suites, anterooms, airlocks, showers, laboratory rooms, necropsy rooms, and procedure rooms all fall within in these high risk, high containment facilities. Each requires hermetically sealed environments capable of withstanding decontamination procedures and preventing the escape of infectious materials.

Sealed for High Containment, by Design

Hygienic practices like protective clothing, controlled air pressure, and emergency backup systems all play a role in a functioning BSL facility. But none of them hold up without a properly constructed barrier behind them. That barrier has to seal every joint, corner, and penetration in the room. It has to keep performing through repeated decontamination cycles.

Arcoplast composite panels and Bio-Seal finishing create that barrier as a single, monolithic chamber, air-tight, gas-tight, and leak-tight. It’s built to hold across facilities rated from BSL-2 through BSL-4. The same system supports the “box within a box” construction that high-containment facilities depend on for both primary and secondary containment.

The Arcoplast Approach

BSL Facilities

Arcoplast has introduced the emerging technology of composite materials into the world of biosafety, biomedical and microbiological laboratories. These effective barrier systems are built through the use of superior architectural panels and sealants.

Key Features:

  • Create internal shells for maximum containment facilities
  • Compliant to biosafety guidelines at all levels : BSL-2, BSL-3, BSL-3AG, ABSL-3, BSL-4

Monolithic Chamber

When sealed with our unique finishing compound, Arcoplast panels create a monolithic chamber that is:

  • Air-tight
  • Gas-tight
  • Leak-tight

Using conventional metal stud framing, our systems greatly reduce on-site construction time while delivering lightweight, predictable and reliable performance.

These panels create a chamber that becomes the secondary barrier and the primary barrier for: USDA ARS 242.1 BSL-3Ag applications.

Complex Environments

These composite panels integrate cleanly with the equipment and access points these complex environments depend on, including:

  • Pass-through locks
  • cGMP windows
  • Doors
  • Penetrations for pipes and MEP equipment

Arcoplast wall and ceiling systems are already in use at some of the top BSL facilities in the world, changing how professionals approach the construction of high-containment spaces.
